Freedom does come with responsibilities. I think you are right in emphasizing the responsibilities we have to ourselves and to others. With information comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes wisdom. It is incumbent upon us to accept our responsibilities and use that wisdom we gain to question and hold accountable each other for what affects our own lives. In other words ... think for yourself!

The internet is not a safe place? Sadly, here in Canada, the thought police are out, and yes, too bad if some do not like what i will say, they are on the left leaning side, where freedom of speech is being attacked and being replace with better speech. Who decided that. I saw this inklings of this when I was in university and had nasty feminist professor attack me, the boys in class thought i was pro male, but actually, i was anti sexism. I do not see replacing one type of sexism with another making much sense logically or ethically.

I attended a talk not long ago from a professor from University of Montreal who gave a talk in area of logic and reasoning, and he spoke about bias etc. He said it was swinging to the left/progressive side whereas some years ago it was facism/right wing. The profs who were left/progressives, had no grace in letting him finish, they went on the defensive, attacking him, etc. Funny, they were professors in logic and reasoning, and were committing fallacy errors. I was sitting there, amused, at the sheer shit show, change the degrees and suits, it looked more like monkeys flinging poop.

Okay, i went off on a rant, but either side can be controlling of speech, I get that, all i am saying is what is currently happening in Canada's academia. It is pretty pitiful.

As usual, this was a pleasure to read, stormdancer. Thank you.

I think you're confusing the internet with free speech. Because of anonymity, they're not the same.

The internet is where the truth and reason go to be butchered by nameless assassins. Remove anonymity from the internet and then you would have a real forum for free speech. People would have to be personally identified with what they say.

Everybody's entitled to a break. I've been off in my favorite playground for over a month myself, which is why I'm just catching up in commenting on your usually provocative posts.
