I've chatted with foreign people via Google Translator and it more or less works if you keep the sentences simple and direct. In some cases, you can guess the meaning from context, like when I got "suspender" instead of "bra".

Much gets lost in translation. Peter (with accent) is the verb to fart, which is given as pet (noun), but then that is an endearment in regional, British English:

Make us a cuppa, pet...

It would be an odd insult in that formulation, mais il y a rien si fous commes les gens! (Tha's nowt so daft as folks, petal!).

hmm.. I'm still not certain how to say fart in French.. perhaps one of my favorite expressions I use when writing of someone else's opinion works.. ppffffttttt.. sounds French to me
